“Tonight, at dusk, in my little rowing boat full of fairy lights, I indulged in a little socially distanced singing slap bang in the middle of Heybridge Basin. To take a stand. For every single person out there who wants to sing but can’t. To play an instrument but can’t. No visor. No mask. No standing whilst listening to a recorded choir sing. Full belt Mozart- Porgi Amor from The Marriage Of Figaro.” Kate Millner, At Swefn’s Edge
We also compiled a number of short videos we took whilst preparing for the filming:
We used various microphones to record Kate’s performance, to see hwat worked best. we went with the recording using a Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset (Binaural Audio) for the video, but we also recorded using a stereo pair of mics on a Tascam DR-40, a lav mic mounted in a parabolic dish & a hydrophone placed under the water just a short distance from the bank where the camera was set up.
The 4 recordings using the different mics can be heard here:
After the restrictions of the lock-down, we At Swefn’s Edge think everyone should be endeavouring to move their bodies as often as we can in celebration of the life we have- and August is the perfect summer sunshiny month to do this.
We are over the moon today to be launching our DANCE ON THE EDGE season.. a collection of selected pieces of our music weaved into dances by other creatives. We are excited to explore how our music can be interpreted by others in their own way…
To mark Lammas and Kate’s 21st birthday (again!).. we present The World Turns (A Ritual Dance)…featuring our talented musician friend Gareth Knight on didgeridoo and fujara.
Here is Paula Baker (Footprints Theatre Company) with her brilliant interpretation of our track:
