Weaving Together the Threads of Music, Spoken Word and Visual Art
“Imaginary events seen in the mind while sleeping.”
Hello! Thank you for enquiring further about our proposal.
At Swefn’s Edge is formed by Essex based husband and wife team Michael Parker and Kate Millner who compose a variety of soundscapes, often weaving poetry/spoken word with music suitable for theatre, TV, film, gaming, meditative platforms and audio drama.
Michael is a professional musician, sound designer and composer. Kate is a storyteller, actress, singer and primary school teacher with a Degree in Art History and Drama.
Our Proposal
At Swefn’s Edge propose to create music and spoken word compositions, through directed commission, to accompany selected pieces of art for a specific gallery setting.
Each piece will be inspired by the artwork, reflecting the period in which it was painted, or perhaps to illustrate the story in the picture.
The music may be composed to reflect the period in which the painting was created through tempo, rhythm or specific instruments.
Spoken word/poetry used in the composition will be directed by the artwork itself: a Bible story or Psalm, a poem, traditional story, rhyme, letter, hymn, myth etc
How?
During lockdown, the music will be accessed through a mobile device or computer at home (ideally with the use of headphones) whilst viewing the artwork online. When galleries reopen – visitors can access the content on their phone/headphones through the gallery’s website as they walk through the space.
The Project Will:
- Ignite an alternative route to expand the gallery’s engagement with global audiences, from a variety of artistic backgrounds, (music, poetry, drama etc) whilst simultaneously maintaining online accessibility for art lovers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown & further possible sanctions.
- Inspire audiences to return to galleries once reopened & experience the visual with the auditory.
- Increase accessibility of visual art for visually impaired individuals.
- Provoke an accessible, multi-sensory experience for a diverse audience of all ages.
The Commission
We are offering you a special deal – Our first commission will be totally free!
It will be your choice of artwork, provided that any text linked to it will not breach copyright.
At Swefn’s Edge will then compose a bespoke piece to accompany the selected artwork.
If you like it (and we think that you will) we will offer you FOUR additional bespoke compositions for your exclusive use – at a total cost of £2,000
You will therefore receive five bespoke music/spoken word pieces to use with an exclusive license within the gallery or through your website.
At Swefn’s Edge must always be fully credited and, if the pieces are to be used for any other purpose, a further agreement would be necessary.
Further concepts:
At Swefn’s Edge have many other exciting supplementary concepts leading from the initial proposal:
- A fully immersive ten painting trail. The experience will begin on entering the gallery & will take visitors on a guided musical journey.
- An art and music trail specifically tailored for children.
- Exhibition only trail – for a featured artist and their work.
- Bespoke commissioned CDs to sell in your gallery shop.
- Initiating educational links to schools from the gallery website, with cross
curriculum links; Art, Music, R.E, English, English Literature, & Drama. - A multi-faith trail to celebrate a diversity of religions & beliefs.
